As part of the HWPO Training GIVE initiative for March, we’ll be donating $5k to Alliance for Period Supplies as well as encouraging our community to donate and create awareness around womens’ access to hygiene products globally.

Period poverty is defined as the hardship women and girls endure by not having access to menstrual products, and/or the financial burden incurred by purchasing them. The Alliance for Period Supplies works with local non-profit organizations (more than 120 nationwide), called Allied Programs, to collect, store and distribute menstrual supplies in their surrounding community and help #EndPeriodPoverty.
Tampons, pads, over-the-counter pain medicine and even clean underwear are basic needs for the female population and without these items, women are more likely to miss work, school and exercise, and experience health issues as a side-effect of using poor quality substitutions.
This is not a problem specific to low-income households or underdeveloped communities; in fact, a 2021 study found that 10% of college-age women were unable to afford their necessary feminine products, resulting in missed classes and higher rates of self-reported depression.
HWPO Training is donating $5,000 in March to directly provide necessary products to women. Through HWPO’s donation and creation of conversation around the issue, we aim to help women and girls have access to the products they need to work hard and live healthy, successful lives.
Donate to Alliance for Period Supplies here, or find an Allied Program in your local community on their map of locations throughout the United States.
If you or someone you know is in need of feminine products, please visit an Allied Program location, go to 211.org or call 2-1-1 for assistance.
